Outline & Setup
Welcome to our biggest transcription challenge yet!
For an entire year we'll be providing you with transcription prompts to dive deep into the bebop language.
Every week a new transcription will be unlocked and the "solution" to the previous prompt will be provided as well.
In every lesson you'll find the excerpt to transcribe at full speed, a slowed down version and also a piano version with metronome.
Some of the recordings are not always very clear, rhythms and notes get fumbled, etc... so in order to "get the notes" a bit more easily we included this as well.
A little sidenote on "getting the notes" (no pun intended). It's important that you don't stop there. Here are some things to listen for and pay attention to while you're listening to these excerpts:
Phrasing & Articulation (which notes get emphasized, ghosted, slurred, ...)
Timing (do they play behind, on or before the beat)
Melodic and harmonic devices (enclosures, chromatic approach notes, octave displacements, ...)
Don't worry, you'll find a list of these melodic and harmonic devices in the next lesson.
